Not long ago, we reviewed the Los Angeles Premium VPS from VMRack, a brand under EasyLink, featuring AS9929 and CMIN2 optimized return routes. Its powerful AMD EPYC processors and excellent connectivity to mainland China left a strong impression on us. Recently, VMRack announced another major upgrade: the routing for this VPS series has been significantly improved, along with a revised pricing structure that delivers even greater value for money.
The core of this upgrade is the transition from the previous “optimized routing” to a true “premium routing for all three major Chinese carriers,” including China Telecom CN2 GIA, China Unicom CUII (AS9929), and China Mobile CMIN2. At the same time, the new plans offer more attractive hardware configurations and pricing. In this article, we’ll take a detailed look at the upgraded plans and compare them with the previous generation to see just how impressive this “better specs at lower prices” upgrade really is.

Core Upgrade: From “Dual Premium” to True “Triple Premium Routing”
To better illustrate the value of this upgrade, here’s a quick comparison between the old and new plans:
| Feature | Before Upgrade (Premium) | After Upgrade (Premium V2) | Improvement |
| China Telecom Return Route | China Unicom AS9929 | China Telecom CN2 GIA | Massive improvement for Telecom users with top-tier return routing |
| China Unicom Return Route | China Unicom AS9929 | China Unicom CUII (AS9929) | Maintains premium routing quality and stability |
| China Mobile Return Route | China Mobile CMIN2 | China Mobile CMIN2 | Maintains premium routing quality and stability |
| Representative Plan | 1 Core / 1GB / 1TB / 100Mbps / $5 | 2 Cores / 2GB / 300GB / 200Mbps / $5 | Same price with doubled CPU, RAM, and bandwidth |
In short, the biggest beneficiaries of this upgrade are China Telecom users, whose routing has been upgraded from indirect AS9929 routing to the top-tier CN2 GIA network. This significantly improves latency and stability. Meanwhile, all users now get better hardware performance at a lower effective cost thanks to the new pricing structure.

In-Depth Review of the New L3.VPS2.C2G2 Plan ($5/Month)
For this review, we selected the highly competitive L3.VPS2.C2G2 plan to evaluate the real-world performance after the upgrade.
1. Hardware Performance: Still a “Mini Performance Beast”
Basic System Information: --------------------------------- Processor : AMD EPYC-Rome Processor CPU cores : 2 @ 2595.124 MHz RAM : 1.9 GiB Disk : 50.0 GiB VM Type : OPENSTACK NOVA
The server continues to use AMD EPYC Rome processors with clock speeds close to 2.6GHz. Thanks to the upgraded specs, this $5 plan now includes 2 CPU cores.
- CPU & Memory Performance (Geekbench 5 & SysBench):
- Geekbench 5 Single-Core: 1026
- Geekbench 5 Multi-Core: 2013
- SysBench Single-Core: 1616 Scores
- SysBench Multi-Core: 3224 Scores
Performance is outstanding. Single-core scores exceed 1000, while multi-core performance has nearly doubled, making it ideal for compiling projects, running Docker containers, and handling high-concurrency workloads.
- Disk I/O Performance: Storage performance remains top-tier. Sequential read/write speeds exceed 1.1GB/s, while 4K random read/write speeds approach 120MB/s. The NVMe SSD storage delivers extremely smooth database and file operations.
fio Disk Speed Tests (Mixed R/W 50/50): --------------------------------- Block Size | 4k (IOPS) | 64k (IOPS) Read | 119.84 MB/s (29.9k) | 1.14 GB/s (17.9k) Write | 120.15 MB/s (30.0k) | 1.15 GB/s (18.0k) Total | 240.00 MB/s (59.9k) | 2.30 GB/s (35.9k)
2. Network Quality: Premium Routing Across All Three Carriers
This is the highlight of the review.
- Ping Latency:
- Average latency from mainland China: 159ms
- Best-performing region: East China averages just 143ms, with Shanghai Telecom and Mobile reaching as low as 130ms
- Overall evaluation: Extremely stable and low latency. Compared to the previous generation’s 162ms average, latency is slightly improved, while stability—especially during peak hours—should be significantly better thanks to CN2 GIA.
- Return Route Analysis:
(Note: Routing scripts may not always fully reflect actual routes; real-world experience should align with the provider’s CN2 GIA claims.) Testing clearly confirmed AS9929 (CUII) routing for China Unicom and CMIN2 routing for China Mobile. While scripts did not fully expose the CN2 GIA path, the excellent 161ms average latency for China Telecom strongly indicates premium-level routing quality. Regardless of your ISP, you can expect low latency and highly stable connectivity.
Beijing UDP: Telecom AS46783->163 || Unicom AS46783->9929 || Mobile AS46783->CMIN2 Shanghai UDP: Telecom AS46783->163 || Unicom AS46783->9929 || Mobile AS46783->CMIN2 Guangzhou UDP: Telecom AS46783->163 || Unicom AS46783->9929 || Mobile AS46783->CMIN2
- Domestic Speed Tests:
- Suzhou Telecom download speeds reached up to 221Mbps. This confirms that the advertised 200Mbps bandwidth is fully available and even slightly overprovisioned, making it more than sufficient for most applications.
3. IP Quality & Streaming Unlock Tests
- IP Quality: The IP is identified as a native US IP with a low fraud-risk score (21%) and high cleanliness.
- Streaming & Service Unlock Support:
- TikTok: Unlocked (US)
- Disney+: Unlocked (US)
- Netflix: Unlocked (US)
- YouTube: Unlocked (US)
- Amazon Prime Video: Unlocked (US)
- ChatGPT: Unlocked (US)
The IP quality remains excellent. Aside from Spotify restrictions, it successfully unlocks nearly all mainstream streaming and AI services, making it highly attractive for users with such needs.

Final Verdict
The latest Premium V2 upgrade from VMRack represents a genuinely meaningful improvement. On top of already strong hardware performance, the addition of China Telecom CN2 GIA routing completes the final piece of the puzzle, resulting in true premium routing coverage across all three major Chinese ISPs: CN2 GIA, CUII (AS9929), and CMIN2.
Combined with the revised pricing strategy, the value proposition has become even more compelling. In particular, the $5/month L3.VPS2.C2G2 plan stands out with 2 CPU cores, 2GB RAM, 200Mbps bandwidth, and top-tier routing, making it extremely difficult to beat among competitors in the same price range.
If you are looking for a Los Angeles VPS with fast mainland China connectivity, strong performance, and excellent streaming unlock support, the upgraded VMRack Premium V2 series is absolutely one of the best options currently available on the market.
