Recently, ToToTel issued an important notice, announcing the official shutdown of its Japan servers and plans to migrate the cloud infrastructure of both its Japan and US servers to the VmShell platform. This adjustment is mainly due to management limitations in ToToTel’s current PVE cloud architecture, which affected IPv6 automatic allocation and network security management.
ToToTel official website: https://tototel.com/Main Reasons for ToToTel Migration
During the inspection of network issues on its Japan servers, ToToTel found that although the PVE architecture offers convenient overall image migration, it also has the following problems in practice:-
- IPv6 addresses cannot be automatically assigned, supporting only IPv4. Manual management of IPv6 is complex.
-
- SSH security management is difficult. Some users set simple SSH passwords, making servers vulnerable to brute-force attacks, allowing hackers to exploit them for sending malicious traffic.
-
- Network stability is insufficient. Under the current PVE architecture, data center network devices lack traffic management. If a server is attacked, it may cause bandwidth congestion and even disrupt the entire network.
ToToTel Server Migration Plan
To ensure service continuity, ToToTel offers the following migration plan:-
- Users must register an account on the VmShell website using the same email as their ToToTel account (registration link).
-
- Submit a support ticket (ticket link) requesting migration of the original Japan server to the US VmShell platform.
-
- Unified migration to VmShell standard configuration: 1 CPU core, 512MB RAM, 4TB traffic, 1 IPv4 + IPv6, or choose the unlimited traffic option.
-
- Price adjustment: migrated servers will be priced at $15.15/year, offering a better value than before.
-
- Migration will be completed by the end of February 2025. Users should submit migration requests promptly to avoid service interruptions.
-
- Japan IP ranges will be fully migrated to the US to ensure a smooth access experience for China Telecom and Unicom users.
-
- ToToTel’s Japan master server will be permanently shut down at the end of this month. After the Japan data center is adjusted, the cloud architecture will be redeployed based on SOLUSVM.
Impact and User Notice
-
- Hong Kong CMI users are not affected and do not need to take any action.
-
- ToToTel Japan and US server users must migrate promptly or their service may be interrupted due to the shutdown of the Japan data center.
-
- After migration, VmShell will notify users via email to ensure servers can be used normally.
