Tokyonline provides a Japan Tokyo BGP route VPS hosted in the Equinix TY8 data center in Tokyo. It uses a BGP network and is priced at 990 JPY/month (approximately 48 RMB/month), making it the entry-level plan of Tokyonline. Although the plan does not explicitly state that it uses a Japanese local IP, testing confirms that it is indeed a Japanese native IP. However, due to routing limitations, latency is relatively high, and it is mainly suitable for China Telecom and China Unicom return-path direct connections. Below is a detailed performance review for reference.

1. Tokyonline Tokyo BGP VPS Hardware Configuration

The tested Tokyonline Tokyo BGP VPS is equipped with an Intel Xeon E5-2696 v2 CPU running at 2.5GHz and 3951MB of memory. The disk is a 20GB HDD with a relatively low read/write speed of around 60MB/s. This is a standard mechanical hard drive and cannot compete with modern SSD storage, resulting in some performance limitations.

2. Tokyonline Tokyo BGP VPS Network Performance

The VPS provides a 500Mbps bandwidth port. Download speed from mainland China nodes is average, around 300Mbps, while upload speed fluctuates significantly—sometimes dropping to tens of Mbps and occasionally reaching over 200Mbps. For users in the Asia-Pacific region, both upload and download speeds can generally reach near line capacity with relatively stable performance.

3. Latency Test to Mainland China

The average latency to mainland China is approximately 299ms, which is relatively high and indicates traffic routing detours. China Telecom and China Unicom perform better in return routing, especially China Unicom users, who experience lower latency. China Mobile traffic tends to route through the United States, resulting in higher latency.

4. Streaming Unblocking Capability

This VPS can smoothly unblock Japanese Netflix and Japanese Disney+, but performs poorly with TikTok unlocking. IP quality testing also shows that this is not a Japanese residential IP, but rather a standard data center IP.

5. Use Cases

Overall, the Tokyonline Tokyo BGP VPS is suitable for China Unicom users, especially those in coastal Asia-Pacific regions. China Telecom and China Mobile users may experience higher latency, which can affect performance. Additionally, both hardware performance and local network stability are relatively average.

FAQ

Q1: Who is this VPS suitable for? A1: It is best suited for China Unicom users or users located in coastal Asia-Pacific regions. China Telecom and China Mobile users may experience higher latency and reduced performance. Q2: Is it suitable for hosting websites targeting China? A2: It is not recommended for websites targeting mainland China due to relatively high latency. Only China Unicom users may get acceptable performance. Q3: How is the hardware performance? A3: The hardware is average, using an E5-2696 v2 CPU. Memory is moderate, but HDD storage performance is relatively weak. Q4: Can it stream Japanese content smoothly? A4: Yes, it can smoothly access Japanese Netflix and Disney+, but TikTok unblocking performance is limited.
